Companionship and Respite
Be a friend to a homebound older adult. Play games, take on social outings, socialize, or other various activities. Be an in-person companion or phone friend.
We also need volunteers willing to be a friend to an older adult while providing some long-needed rest or a break for their caregiver.
Isolation and loneliness is a fast spreading epidemic for all ages, but for older adults especially. Many desire to remain in their own homes as they age, but that can lead to prolonged isolation and loneliness. Even the most solitary of persons require human contact, whether recognized or not. Statistics demonstrate the negative impact on physical and mental health. By being a friend to someone, you would not only be lifting them up, but it is a great benefit to you as well!
For respite opportunities, you would be providing not only companionship for someone, but also giving a caregiver a break to rest or take care of errands while knowing their loved one is in good hands. Caregivers often do not take the time out in caring for themselves and it can be a lonely and isolating experience.
